In the summer of 2019, I interned at The Seattle Times as a sports reporter. I covered all things Seattle sports including the Seattle Storm, the Seahawks, University of Washington Huskies, Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle Mariners and the Reign FC. I wrote about four to six stories a week which varied from deadline writing during game coverages to practice write-ups and features.
Storm, WNBA looking into domestic-abuse allegations against All-Star forward Natasha Howard
As an intern for The Seattle Times, I broke the news of a domestic-abuse allegation against Storm forward Natasha Howard. After finding a series of tweets from Howard’s ex-girlfriend on Twitter early Saturday morning, I alerted my editor and began working with him to draft a story while also reaching out to Howard’s ex-girlfriend and the Storm for comment. My story ran the same time The Athletic also published its story. I continually followed up with the story throughout the week and the remainder of the season. Working with the Times’ Storm beat reporter, I stayed in contact via Twitter with the ex-girlfriend and repeatedly checked public records for progress on the court case.
