In the summer of 2019, I interned at The Seattle Times as a sports reporter. I covered all things Seattle sports including the Seattle Storm, the Seahawks, University of Washington Huskies, Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle Mariners and the Reign FC. I wrote about four to six stories a week which varied from deadline writing during game coverages to practice write-ups and features.

Reign FC drops World Cup homecoming match in front of club record attendance

TACOMA – Allie Long crumbled to the ground immediately after the final whistle. Visually frustrated, she sat up and held her knees to her chest. She took a couple of moments to pause and compose herself, knowing very well how many eyes were upon her. It was not the match she, nor her teammates on Reign FC, envisioned for the homecoming Sunday at Cheney Stadium. It was the complete opposite scene from the last time she had heard a final whistle. Three weeks ago, it signified a World Cup championship. Now, it was concluding the Reign’s worst defeat of the season. The Chicago Red Stars (7-5-2) spoiled the Reign’s World Cup welcome-back party, posting a 4-0 victory.

Mystics make quick work of Storm in WNBA Finals rematch, beat Seattle 99-79

EVERETT — Washington wanted revenge. Despite a new season and new players, it still held on to its grudge from being swept by the Seattle Storm almost 10 months ago in the 2018 WNBA Finals. The Mystics wanted to win and came into Friday’s game against the Storm ready for battle and ready to upset an All-Star welcoming. The Mystics (14-6) got their revenge with a 99-79 win over the Seattle Storm (12-10) at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett.
